Winter Skin Care?

I just couldn't decide what my first post should be about. Lately though, I have been having a lot of women telling me their skin is extremely dry, and they don't know how they should be taking care of it. So, I figured it's probably most important that I tackle this subject right from the get go!
The worst feeling in the world, is when your skin is dry and flaky, almost a sandpaper feel. Your makeup doesn't go on right, your face feels tight, and it's screaming for moisture! This time of year our skin needs more. Between the heat that we turn up, and the cold air outside- our skin is confused.
As we age, our skin looses the ability to lock in moisture. Take a baby's skin for instance, so smooth and soft, and compare it to wherever you are at now.

First step would be to use a light exfoliator. There are a couple different types of exfoliation : Chemical and Physical. Choosing the right one for your will depend on your skin type. Physical exfoliators are the ones where you do most of the work, by scrubbing with your hands and usually feels rough to the touch. This type is never recommended for oily/acneic skin. Chemical exfoliators, are usually rubbed on lightly but the chemicals do all the work. Both work to slough off old, dead skin cells. For most people, you shouldn't exfoliate more than twice a week. Over exfoliating can actually damage your skin.
Examples of each:  Kate Sommerville exfolikate & Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish

After you have done that for your skin, you will reveal brighter skin. To maintain it, start by using a moisturizing cleanser. This could be an oil based cleanser, or a cream cleanser.
Examples of each: Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil & The Body Shop Vitamin E Cleanser

Once you have cleansed, there is the optional step of a serum or a Beauty Oil. This is something personally I can't do without. A serum will penetrate deeper into your skin, and will allow your moisturizer to work more effectively. There are so many out there that you can buy, but make sure if your skin is dry, to get one specifically for adding moisture. Beauty Oils are becoming very popular as of late. It all really started with the Argan/Moroccan Oil trend. Just because it is an "oil" does not mean it is moisturizing! Make sure that is the focus of the one you purchase.
Examples of each: Peter Thomas Roth VIZ-1000 and Fresh Seaberry face Oil

And of course, you can't forget about your moisturizer. I really believe you need a different moisturizer for the day, and night. At night, you can get away with wearing something much heavier, and more moisturizing. Your skin breathes it all in much easier at night, without having your makeup on. During the day however, choose something a little lighter for under your makeup, with an added SPF to protect your skin.
Examples of each: Korres Wild Rose 24hr Moisture Cream and Sephora Collection Instant Moisturizer

Our under-eyes need a little help too! Even adding a little extra moisture at night will help.
Example: Loccitane Ultra Rich Eye Balm (It has Shea Butter! - amazing.)

Lips get super dry this time of year, BUT you can exfoliate those too! Doing a light exfoliator will help them out tremendously. Knocking off the flaky dead skin and applying a very rich balm on top will make magic happen.
Examples of each: Fresh Sugar Lip Polish ( I KNOW someone reading this has to be a fan.) & Josie Maran Argan Lip Treatment

Let's not just stop at our face! OUR POOR HANDS! Right!? Doing hair and makeup for about 5 years, I have beat up my hands and have tried just about everything to keep them from cracking in the winter. Finally this year I have found what I would call, miracle products to keep them from doing just that. Yu Be moisturizing skin cream, doesn't have the most pleasant smell at first (it's the camphor in it), but if it works I don't even care. Let me tell you, that is the best thing I have ever used. Another great product would be the Josie Maran Argan Balm... because Argan Oil fixes everything, right? I have used both at night before going to bed and when I wake up the next day, you would never know my hands were on the verge of cracking.

After all of these suggestions from me, I would love to know- What works for YOU? Everyone has their own "Miracle Products" for winter time blues, what's yours?

Reader Question: Winter Shoes w/ Trouser Jeans

Reader Questions: What Shoes to Wear w/Trouser Jeans

Reader Questions: What Shoes to Wear w/Trouser Jeans by freetobestacialee featuring lace up boots

One of my lovely readers Anna had a question about what type of shoes to wear with trouser jeans during the winter. She typically would wear flats or heels but with the winter weather she was looking for something with more coverage to keep her feet warm! Depending on how long her trouser jeans are there a few really great options! I choose booties for all four options since they have full coverage but still are very comfortable. My personal favorite are the red heeled booties. All of these booties can be worn with multiple other outfit options too. Think skirts, skinny jeans & even a dress! If you have a style related question for me feel free to email me!

Fun at Lady C's

Lady C's is a local ladies clothing boutique in Sylvania Ohio.  Jayme told me they were looking for ladies to model their clothes and I thought it would be fun to go check out the store and see what they have to offer!  First things first is that its in beautiful downtown Sylvania and I was greeted by a very bubbly and welcoming Becky who would be taking my photos!  I picked out a few things and she picked out the jewelery and then we headed outside to take the photos.  The first 3 photos are all items with the exception of the black leggings are all winter items that are 70% off currently!  The clothing at first wasn't my normal style but once I had the items on I did feel very beautiful!  The last picture is an item from their spring line.  Becky and I both agreed a perfect top for a warm vacation somewhere tropical.  If you like what you see go check out their website & say hello on their facebook page

* This is not a sponsored post. I really enjoying highlighting local businesses!

Jenelle Ahmad : Introduction

So if you are connected to my facebook fan page you have heard me mention a few times in the last week about a very special contributor!  I am so excited to have Jenelle on board!  Not only is she in expert in skincare, makeup & hair but she also has a wonderful warm heart!  Please welcome her to FTBSL!!

Hello!

I'm Jenelle, and I am SO excited to be a part of "Free to be Stacia Lee". I am so honored that Stacia asked me to be a part of her blog. I do love fashion and I am addicted to thrifting, but my main passion is anything in the Beauty Industry! Let me tell you a little bit about myself...

On a personal level, I married my high school sweetheart on October 23, 2010. We live in Toledo, Ohio and have two furry children named Riley & Jackson. It's ridiculous how much we love our dogs. I love to thrift, I attempt to sew, and I love to tackle any little crafty, DIY project I can get my hands on. I am not a fan of cooking, but attempt to bake from time to time. A few of my favorite things would be 90's music, chevron, sushi, bonfires, big hair, twizzlers, mustard yellow, and fresh flowers. How's that for random?

As for my profession, I graduated from Cosmetology School in 2008 and have had my hands in hair ever since. I love doing hair, but I started to also develop a love for Cosmetics. I have been doing makeup now for about 3 years, and still strive to learn as much as I can. I'm sure you notice how much trends change in this industry, and I will be here to answer any questions you may have, and bring you up to speed on the latest! Feel free to ask me questions, and tell me what you would like to see me write about.

My heart is for Women. All women. When I am with a client, I want to make sure that when I am done working with them, that they feel their absolute best. Wearing makeup doesn't mean you have to cake it on to feel good about yourself. Wear something that is going to enhance your natural beauty..

Psalm 139:14-15 "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together in the depths of the earth."

I love what I do. I can take pride in knowing that, even for a few moments, I have helped make a women feel beautiful. That is what it is all about for me. God made us beautiful.. Let's walk in knowing that truth.

What I Wore: Comfy Does It!

Top, leggings & boots: Target, scarf: gift, bracelets: assorted, boot socks:Kohls

Ever eye an item at Target just knowing its going to drop from the already cheap $20 price tag  to some crazy prize that's brag worthy?  That was this top.  For a couple months I had it in my cart while browsing Target and every time something a little more thrilling won.  Finally the price tag was just right at my last visit $5.98!  So I snagged it and didn't look back!  It was the perfect item to add with my navy leggings and especially with 3 inches of snow on the ground! What is your favorite comfy outfit?

Trend Alert: Colored Denim

Trend Alert: Colored Denim
So it may seem obvious that colored denim pants are here to stay.  I was well aware last year when the blue and red versions debuted. Now it seems they are arriving in every color!  I don't know about you but at first the trend brought me back to 1992 when I actually had a pair of magenta, purple and forest green pair hanging in my closet.  Now of course these weren't form fitting at that time.  Typical slouch straight all the way through denim.  Fast forward to 2012 and I was a bit skeptical to bring back the color.  It brought me back to that awkward pre-teen stage where my confidence was lacking.  So last year I went with the safe color red.  I thought the trend would end there for me.  Thankfully it hasn't!  I have most recently added a pair of emerald green skinnies & mustard cord skinnies!  So do you think you will be adding a pastel or jewel toned skinnies to your closet this Spring?  Let me know what you think!
